As we all know this is the silly season for newspaper transfer talk but it seems as though there’s a difference of opinion as to whether or not Arsenal have made a move to acquire the services of big Amo, with Amo saying Arsenal have made contact and Wenger saying no we did not, now I ask you who do we believe, the manager of an English Premier team who after winning a Wothington cup game on a controversial goal replayed the tie, or the big diddie who denied swearing at a black player only to have television show him to be telling porky pies, and lets not forget last season’s spitting, oops, I mean clearing his throat incident.
Two interesting points you brought up there Eck. Who to believe when the club and one of their players have differing statements, and do we cash in on our prized assets when the opportunity comes, especially given our financial situation these days?
On the first point, I would still take the clubs statement over any of the players comments, especially with some of our foreign contingents words, where I’m sure many points are lost in the translation. I believe the club still has to act with a great deal of integrity and has much more to lose by coming out with a few white lies. Saying that, maybe I’m still an old romantic who believes everything that springs out from those heavenly doors in front of the main stand, and takes a blinkered look at todays business spins.
On the second point, I believe we should cash in on our talent if we stand to make some money, though not at the expense of the teams ability. Arteta was a bit hot and cold all last season, but I believe it will be a shame to lose him. If he wants to leave, then let him do so, if he wants to stay, I think Rangers should do everything to keep him instead of having one eye on the bank balance. I guess we have to be more prudent these days, but getting Euro pros on the cheap doesn’t mean that they would be half as good as Arteta was last year, or could be in the future.
All in all, I will leave it in the hands of big Eck (that is McLeish - not our fine editor here) who has proven a few people wrong over the last one and a half years at Ibrox - including myself.
Rangers are dirty filthy orange scum!
Thanks, Gerry - great to have you onboard. And you’ll notice we aren’t trying to impede your right to free speech on this here website.
Altogether now, “Gerry! Gerry! Ra Ra Ra!”
