Oh, the woe! - Amo to go

Zurab Khizanishvili’s arrival may seem like an older, established centre-half being replaced by a promising young one. Would it were that simple!

For a start, impressive as he is, the young Georgian is nowhere near as good as Amo. The winning goal of the 2003 Scottish Cup Final, when the former couldn’t live with the latter, was evidence enough of this.

Zura will improve at The Brox. Playing between Klos, Moore and Bazza will ensure it. He could well end up more technically gifted than the man he’s replacing.

But it’s Amo’s sheer strength of character we’ll miss the most. There are few players of any age with the unflinching self-belief of Lorenzo.

When Amo wasn’t playing the team suffered. Every winning side needs a touch of arrogance - a guy who’s not afraid to say his bit both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

Too many of the current squad are genmtlemen. A few could even be said to be downright reserved. Big Eck needs to find a close-season signing who, like dearly-departed Amo, can lift the entire club by his mere presence.
