WARNING: Optimisim alert!
celtic’s European success last season and their assured passage into the Champions League this season confirmed my worst fears: The Parkhead plonkers would have enough money in the bank to get on top of the Scottish game for a couple of seasons before they had to cut their cloth like everyone else.
But now the transfer window’s shut and their biggest signing is a reserve left back from the Nationwide league - on loan! - I’m starting to review my pessimistic predictions.
Furthermore, the performances at The Parkenstadion and Tannadice show that once again, Alex Mcleish is defying doubters like me and churning out performances that work and results which count.
Over the summer we may generally have lost better players than the ones we’ve brought in but we HAVE brought new faces in. Rangers HAVE freshened up.
While Celtic are psychologically drained from giving so much for so little reward last season, Rangers are clearly finding a way of building on our astounding success in our young managers’ first full campaign.
The only worry now is can we hold on to Eck.
