Erm … I know … let’s look to the FUTURE!

We’ve played badly in a lot of SPL games this season but still pulled through. In others, we’ve played badly and dropped points. Sunday’s little horror show at East End Park, however, seemed to confirm once and for all that Rangers, this time round, really just aren’t good enough.

Only one result can turn around 2003/2004 and that’s a win at Paranoia Central on January 3rd. We may even have dropped further behind Sellik in the title race before that day but the away win of away wins is the only domestic test McLeish has yet to pass with Rangers. If he does it now, when it counts, it’ll be a belter.

Doing over O’Neill’s numpties on their own dump will remind them we’re still worth worrying about. Then Jean-Alain Boumsong’s arrival at The Brox (’ll believe it when I see it), coupled with Larsson , O’Neill and half their board’s departure to the Premiership in the summer, will have The Gers will be back on top with a squad of spritely youths next season.

Celtic are refusing to buy replacements for their ageing and departing stars - quite right to look after the pennies they are too - but they’ll never manage to acquire another blend of managerial and playing genius such as Larsson and O’Neill.

Alex McLeish, the up and coming genius of the managerial game, will never in any future term at Ibrox be as crippled in terms of personnel as he has been this season. For by all that, we still have the likes of de Boer, Moore and Arteta to return from injury in the next few weeks.

It might be too late for the title this time, but if we all just stick together, we’ll keep the horrible hooped ones well within our sights for the long term. It’s obvious we’re a club in transition and if this is us up against it, I think we’ll be just fine when we come out the other end.
