Boumsong and dance
Auxerre. The place in Provence where, already out the competition, we had to wear a one-off strip for a 96/97 Champions League match: Alcohol advertising is le grande bete-noir in La Belle France and The Gers had to get rid of the McEwans tops.. Well … the tops with “McEwans” writ on them, that is … as opposed to getting rid of a Mcewans LAGER TOPS … I mean, I don’t mind a little bit of lemonade at the frothy end of my pint … particularly on a Saturday lunch-time when yer getting rid of a jaggy throat from Friday night’s full-on un-topped Lager beasting. So don’t ever get rid of a MCEWANS TOPS - give it to me and I’ll down it for ye … I mean it’d just be a waste otherwise … wha..? Beg yer pardon? Oh, aye - back to the story:
Yeah, Goughie, Fergie et al couldnae wear a booze sponsor on the Sacred Blue so, rather than doing as Sellik did when being dumped oot the same competition in the same country just last week and wear NAE sponsor on our tops, the Murray Mint got jiggy with it and slapped the CENTRE PARKS logo onto our strips for the night. Centreparcs (sic?), of course, are owned by the same holding company as McEwan’s and so, with all those live TV viewers across the continent switching on to see us losing AGAIN to Auxerre’s handy wee mob, our Chairman couldn’t and brilliantly didn’t let pass the chance to make some dough.
Coz, ye see, that’s what DM is renowned for - MAKING MONEY! Yeah, yeah, yeah - I know he’s come under as much flak as an SPL referee at a Sellik game recently for dropping The Gers in some serious financial straits but he himself will never be skint again. Throughout the business world, The Mint is seen as a guy who’ll fail here and there with one-off ventures (maybe The Gers are going the same way as that Newspaper he published for, like, a month!) but he’s a long-term BANKER to get his long-term sums right. rangers are indeed, as DM likes to call them in his finacial pages interviews, just “The Works Team” for MIM.
So, having assesed all the damage done to Ragers’ books over the last few years of Advocaat’s reign, why on earth would Murray suddenly want to spend
