I want to be a Hun

Speaking of the pope, I love the fact that the ads at the top of this page, as I look at it now, are for Pope John Paul prints and coins :-) Someone somewhere has a sense of humour.

Time to roll out that old quiz, Eck

Cool isn’t it - apparently the advert thing reacts to whatever I/we post on the site and comes up with relevant products. When I mentioned the death of Marlon Brando during EURO2004 it came up with all sorts of Godfather memorabilia, DVDs, Videos etc - that was a proud day for this site, I can tell ye Derek! :-)

Not such a proud day for the OpenFootie Dunfermline page, however, when Roy mentioned that the Pars were interested in some player from the Republic of Ireland and he suddenly had these adverts at the top of his article trying to sell folk Sin Fein and IRA literature!!

Ahh, the larfs …

Yup - “Name That Pope” could definitely be making a return, Derek!

Awrabest

Your choice of header.

maybe you dont know but alot of bears do take offence
to being called *Hun*

I dont know why the bears spend time getting the word banned on radio stations, Tv and news papers even FF have it banned and here you are using it.

Its derogative and is meant to be, or do you see a link
between the bears and nazi germany or maybe you think is goes back to Attila?

and Attila didnt sack rome either

One more thing why mention the vatican and have Ads for the Pope on a Football website, never mind it being Rangers?

Jim,
Tsk, tsk, now you’ve done it, you’ve questioned the rotund one’s intentions. Don’t you know it’s only done to rile Catholics, nothing sinister or secterian, just all in good fun. Oh and if you don’t think it happens to be funny, he’ll just tell you to feck off.
It’s like last year when after leaving Celtic Park following another hummping he denegraded the area around Paradise, what followed was a deluge of letters… oops, I mean posts, protesting his ramblings.
All was forgiven however when he admitted to having a few too many.
sie,
“huns are and always have been fans of Celtic FC?” where did you grow up, or am I being presumptious on this part?

Jim - Can’t quite work out which team you support or which team you want us to think you support - it’s a poor attempt at an e-mail, mate. Nevertheless, as you’ve brought up a subject close to my heart and as yourself and Sie seem to be getting it completeley wrong, I’ll try to cover all the possibilities…

I too find the term “hun” offensive but only when, as with most such terms, it’s intended to be.

Yes, surprisingly enough - seeing as I don’t live in a fekin vacuum - I do Know that a lot of pompously self-righteous embarrassments of Rangers fans with nothing real to wory about do find the term offensive and you can usually count the seconds on one hand til they begin mentioning “God and country” or “The Queen” or some such po-faced irrlevant tripe. However, I know just as many Rangers fans who would think it the best compliment they could offer to say “Fat Eck - oh aye, he’s a good hun”.

Me? unless someone’s in my face calling me a dirty hun bastard or spitting the word “hun” at me in any overly confrontational manner, I like to try and take it as a huge compliment. Football’s about 90-minute machismo for a lot of folk and Linking it with our nickname for Mark Hateley, I like to think of “hun” in terms of Attila, in terms of our team: We’re feared because we’re gonnae annihalate other teams.

Now, the “Nazis” link: Why mention that when, with your wee statement of the bleeding obvious regarding Attila, you clearly know I was using the term “hun” because of the great chance our defeat of AS Roma provided to throw up a corny SELF-DEPRECATING headline? The Hun was a term of insult used against “THE GERMANS” during both wars. The “Germans” , even the Wermacht, Luftwaffe and Kriegsmarine were not always, not even 50%, all NAZIS - your history is selectively patchy I fear. Especially when, considering we let the BNP go unmolested on Mafeking Street, selling their bilge, many Rangers fans seem more tolerant of the Nazis than they’ve ever been to Germany … despite the fact it’s where our current Royal Family comes from as well as Albertz, Klos, Nerlinger and Gerry Neef … or are they all Nazis too? Or Just huns … and is a hun a “Protestant” ? I know I’m proud to be a Hun but I just AIN’T a Protestant. So if “Sie” is saying “huns support Celtic” does he actually mean Protestants support Celtic - very true in the latter case but maybe up for grabs in the former?

Attila didn’t sack Rome? No shit, Sherlock! I take it then you’ll know that he, like another bloke called Hannibal, WANTED to … that he was renowned for the hassle he gave the Roman empire but was ultimately defeated. And that’s maybe why I thought it would be (Goram forgive me) “FUNNY” to use RFC’s exploits against a big famous football team who have on their badge the image of Romulus and Remus suckling from the wolf to throw up a mock NEWS headline. Ye see, if the Huns had actually gone all the way and sacked Rome back in 451 instead of coming a cropper at Chalons then a headline saying “Huns sack Rome” would be as (suposedly)funny as saying “Neil Armstrong lands on Moon” - it’d be a statement of the bleeding obvious.

Maybe I should have said “Huns “finally” sack Rome” to get my point across a bit more clearly but then maybe it’d take a lot more than that to get my point across to people who always want to see the sinister in life … even in football.

I’m a shite writer, Jim - that’s for sure - but your mindset reeks a whole lot more than my scribblings ever will.

Ps - the Pope thing: and the Vatican thing. We used to have that on the website every week - a “name That Pope” quiz. The reason was to acknowledge all the accusations thrown at Rangers fans and do what we could to show we ain’t all mad deranged bigots but it was primarily used as a great example of how individual personalities count for much more than a football team or religion. Every week we’d get Rangers fans acussing me of hating Rangers and celtic fans acusing me of hating Catholics becase i did a “name that Pope” quiz - but then ye’d get the good guys, from both sides, joining in and having a a laugh. Some of them were Catholics, some of them were Protestants and at least one of them was a hun - but they were all decent people, trying to clear the decks to allow their love of football to have full reign. Ye should try it - or maybe ye just don’t love football, Jim.

PPS. Charles - meet Jim and Sie. Sie and Jim - meet Charles. You folks seem like three matches made in heaven.

Charles - thaks for reminding me what a nasty wee scumbag you are. You’re referring to a weekend where I came on to a website and slagged the living daylights out Celtic, the Parkhead area and the celtic support because my team had just been humped 3-0 - why can Celtic never be slagged the way every other team takes a slaging off rival fans; Why are Celtic always being opressed??!! - and then you and about eighty other raving bampots began whipping yerselves into a frenzy of faux-outrage until I had NO CHOICE but to remove my article because it was being MISQUOTED, SERIOUSLY misunderstood and used to create the kind of mob frenzy which idiots like you love. Yer a fekin Menace.

Here you are again starting yer sinister pish - I like to “rile Catholics”?? You fucking PRICK. As I’ve told you a MILLION times before - my mother and both my grandfathers are CATHOLIC, ya sectarian-hatred-rousing scumbag!

I like to wind up people like you because you deserve it and I don’t mind getting steamed into CELTIC but, as the guy below you is TRYING to point out in his own deluded way, Catholic and Celtic supporter isn’t necessarily the same thing.

Even when your team had won so convincingly, you still couldn’t take a slagging without trying to accuse me of hate-peddaling. Christ, I spent half that article slagging RANGERS coz they were so pish!!

I’d tolerated your ramblings for months previously. Me and other Rangers fans on this site had tried to get into discussions with you and actually treated you like a welcome member of the team but , despite all your endless slandering of Rangers and their fans being taken in good part by myself and the rest of the Bluenoses on this site, the SECOND I gave a bit back - with NO MENTION OF RELIGION ANYWHERE - your were on here jumping on the bandwagon of threatened law suits and atempted viruses.

It’s stuck record time, Charles - “it’s not Celtic, mate - it’s YOU! I truly despise YOU!”

Eck
