   Not sure if I’m altogether too excited about wee Barry coming back. We don’t exactly have a good track record of returning ’superstars’ to Ibrox - DJ and Baxter come to mind, although Bazza is returning a wee bit younger than those two greats.
   One of our club members brought up a good point last Saturday when Bazza’a return was being discussed. Barry left Rangers as captain part way into the season, then he has now left Blackburn as captain, half way through the season (and contract!) - what does that say for the mans character? As captain you’re supposed to be the heart of the team, not deserting for pastures greener or more familiar. At least we should have him till he retires now, since I can’t imagine any other club wanting to sign him now. I only hope that he picks up straight from where he left off, when he departed Ibrox.

   Over on the other site they call Barry “Captain Disloyal” now I don’t give a tosser what they think, but to agree in part with what Linty said, we’ll have him until he retires as no other team will take a chance on him, with that in mind I think we should have signed him to a shorter deal and put us in the driving seat for negotiations.
   If he once again takes over the penalty kicks that will hurt Nacho’s chance of being top scorer.

   I think Bellamy’s move to celtic IS an excellent signing………for Rangers!

   Look at it this way - were Rangers likely to win the league 7 days ago? No, because we have a manger who is inept and have just sold our best defender. Since then, we have signed our ex-captain for an exorbitant fee (& who will probably be injured for a few months, based on previous experience)and have lost our best player (by miles) for the rest of the season.

   Therefore, celtic were likely to be able to canter to the title with the squad of players they had. Instead, they will be paying a massive salary to Bellamy for 6 months. Why? They’re out of Europe and are going to win the double without too much trouble, so they don’t actually need him. Added to this is the fact that if any one player can shatter the team spirit carefully nurtured at CP duing MON’s reign, it’s Bellamy.

   As for us, we sell our best player for approx 6m net, look likely to lose around 1.5m on Dragan and spend 2.5m on a lightweight Belgian and

Defeat at parkned will seal the league for celtic - they will have a settled side with only the addition of Bellamy to contend with, whilst we will have the 2 named above plus a new goalkeeper to cause confusion.

    Derek, for a man who apparently is all ears you can’t hear what’s being said all around you.
    First, by way of explanation.
    Aiden wasn’t picked to play for Scotland because of some vague rule which I care not about and therefor can’t recall the why’s and wherewithalls, as a schoolboy.
    The rules were not the same for the Irish federation and Aiden was allowed to be chosen for them owing to the birth of his father, the same as the midfield player Hargreaves, born in Canada and playing for England, who by the way receives no abuse in Canada, anyway Aiden was chosen by Ireland and developed an affinity to the coaches and fellow professionals he played and trained with, hence his choice of preferance.
    Let me make this as plain as possible….Aiden McGeady gets booed by the rotten element in Scotland because he is a Catholic playing for Celtic and choosing to play for Ireland, as is his right…end of story.
    If one could take away any one of those elements, and he is just another talented player in Scotland drawing the same attention as John Kennedy, Craig Beattie or David Marshall, the majority of the remainder giving him abuse are upset at the fact he choose Ireland over Scotland, but listen to the filth (ignore the potato tossing) from Rugby park and swinecastle in particular and clean out those ears that you apparently are all of.
    Have you paid attention to the crowds Scotland are drawing? most of the fans could care less what the National team is up to, certainly not the amount of fans booing him every other weekend.
    As far as Chris Burke is concerned I have not heard him singled out for any special treatment, unless it’s the “unrully mob of Celtic supporters smashing windows” I, nor any of my mates who watch Celtic have any idea what you’re talking about, and none of us know what religion he is, nor do we know what religion 90% of the Celtic or Rangers team are made up from.
    As to Burton O’Brien, first off good luck to the lad, but are you telling me that if he signed for Celtic that suddenly his choice of Nationality would matter not to the idiots I’m refering to? don’t insult me or yourself by answering in the affirmitive.
    And finaly this thread was created by someone remarking on the fact that Barry Feguson would be calling of on his international duty’s as often as before, I took it as an opportunity to highlight the abuse Aiden took in Killmarnock, nothing to do with the old chip as you put it.

    Being host of an early ’80’s kids show is embarrasing enough, but coming out of the closet and admitting to being a celtic fan - man, I can only admire your bravery ;)

    Charles - Long time, no speak. McGeady - he’ll get abuse for three reasons:

    1) Bigots - he plays for the wrong national team (in their view) due to his religion - so they’ll boo him.

    2) Scots - he chose ROI over Scotland, so they’ll boo him for that.

    3) Everyone who is not a celtic fan - he looks to be a decent young player who plays for a successful team which regularly beats every other team in the country - so he’ll be booed for that.

    Points 2 & 3 are fair enough - point 1 is (obviously) the problem. But lumping those of us who dislike him for the other reasons in with the (hopefully) few who boo him for the first reason is making a drama out of a crisis. Let’s not kid ourselves that he is booed for entirely innocent reasons. But thet’s also not assume that all the booing is sinister either.

    PPV - Pre-Pubescent-Virgin, yer right, of course, to say that Celtic have a better European history than Newcastle: In terms of finals and semi-finals reached and the number of times they’ve qualified, both Rangers and Celtic are miles ahead of Newcastle but - and I’m taking ye seriously here so be polite! - I think the intimation was that Celtic have a far greater reputation in the world game than Newcastle. Wish this was the case - as it would then in turn be true for Rangers too - but I’m araid the league they play in and the exposure it receives ensures Newcastle being relegated is still bigger news than The Old Firm qualifying for Europe.

    Ye shouldn’t listen to Peter Lawell’s rubbish about Celtic having the potential to be the biggest team in the world because, as one of our esteemed readers points out on this very thread, even the Republic of Ireland - the one “foreign” country which should have most interest in Parkhead - is far more interested in Man U, spurs, Arsenal and Leeds than it ever will be in Celtic.

    Ronnie Simpson is still more famous, world-wide, as being a member of the Newcastle teams which won three FA cups in the fifties than he is for Lisbon 67. That’s not the way it SHOULD be - but in this Anglo-centric media-ratings-driven football world I’m afraid it’s the way it is.

    What you have to remember - and you yourself are a prime example - is that most of the armchair football fans who decide which team is “the biggest” because of the brands they buy, are really quite stupid about the history of the game.

    Rangers and Celtic have won one European trophy each - the same as Newcastle. That’s about as much as yer average South Korean Real Madrid fan will know. he fact that Each of those European trophies was a different competition and Celtic’s was the most remarkable achievement is neither here nor there to these Philistines: All they know is Jonathan Woodgate came from Newcatsle, Bechkam and Owen used to score against Newcastle.

    If you doubt my reasoning then speak to Liverpool fans, victims of the global marketing even within tehrarefied conditions of that hallowed Premiership. Their club is still the record holder for the number of English championships won and they lifted the European Cup four times in seven years: Yet the coverage and plaudits they received for this wre NOTHING compared to Man U finally winning their first league title for twenty six years in 92/93.

    Man U have won teh European cup only teh same number fo times as Nottingham Forest and half as many times as either Ajax or Liverpool but the Old trafford teamae still the biggest thing in Britain and Northern Europe BY A MILE.

    Bellamy left a club with a far bigger name than Celtic’s (and that’s even when ye include the “Glasgow” in Celtic) and Barry Ferguson left a club in an infinitely bigger league with far bigger potential than Rangers.
