No alarms and no surprises …

Rangers.

Ahhh. (Sigh). Man-oh-man.

Lovely, lovely, beautiful gorgeous Rangers FC.

Fuckin love them, me - so ah do. And I know you blue folks out there do too.

So what’s it gonae be on Sunday then? What’s the reaction gonnae be to whatever unfolds?

One thing about days like 22nd May 2005 - they brutally avail you of exactly the insane level of emotion you attach to a bloody football team. The love is there forever but the way that’s displayed is what’s up for grabs at Easter Road.

We have to win to win the league. A draw or a loss and whatever happens at Fir Park makes no difference to the top of the SPL table.

Similairly, a Celtic win at Fir Park and whatever happens at Easter Road makes no difference.

Just thought I’d remind you of the mechanics of the situation - just in case you’d forgotten over the last few days.

What we cannae forget however is that Rangers lost the league by a mile last season, Losing it by five points, the worst possible scenario after this weekend, IS a vast improvement and McLeish HAS earned another crack at it. Our side has improved and the gaffer deserves a final re-tuning of his handywork before we cast a final opinion on his tenure.

What we can’t forget is that, for all the failures this season, the effort has been phenomenal. Dissapointment over losing the league began far earlier than this weekend and will last far longer - so it’s unlikely to reach cataclysmic proportions at full-time in Edinburgh.

Unless there is some cruelly last-gasp change of fortunes (Celtic are drawing and we, as we have before this season, concede a late goal to go 1-1 … bet it’s Marvin who OGs it … aw naw!) there will be little shock if we don’t win the league. There will be a temporary biting dissy but the main thing this Sunday will be The Rangers performance. As long as they give it a real go and do us proud on the day, no-one will do anything other than send The Gers away for the summer with our love ringing in their ears.

Ironically, we last won the League at Easter Road thanks to a result at Fir park. Dundee United defeated Motherwell on their own patch on 3rd May 1994, as we lost by a goal to nil in Leith. These mid-week results gave us probably our most anti-climactic championship “celebration” ever.

A win in Leith this weekend paired with a surprise result at Fir Park would give us probably THE most unexpected League win in our history.

But I’m JUST CAN’T SEE IT.

As always, I wish The Gers all the VERY best and would just remind everyone that, come 4pm on Sunday, you’re looking at the one thing in Scottish Footbal which all sane observers agree never lies: The final standings in the league table. The best team ALWAYS wins the league.

Whoever that proves to be, it’s The Rangers I love and it’s The Rangers I’ll miss like crazy all through the summer.

Cheers, folks. Talk to you on Sunday night.
