Oh, there’s a OUI spot in Europe …

Bonjour, mes amis.

Well, all good things must come to an end.

For five and a half years now I’ve done all I can to fill yese in on my innermost thoughts on all things Rangers: From August 2000 til the present day, whenever The Rangers won I’d poeticise the goals. If we lost I’d lyrically lament, a draw was dourly described. Every UEFA draw was a dissertation, every transfer rumour a novella. If David Murray farted, I’d polemicise on the pong. If Barry Ferguson spoke, I’d translate. If Tore Andre Flo … if Tore Andre Flo … if Tore Andre Flo.

But it’s now time to move on.

Fat Eck has enjoyed his time on Gers@OpenFootball/ Gers@FromTheTerraces/ Gers@FansFC /Gers@PrettyBoysandtheirdonkeys.com but I feel I’ve really taken this site as far as I can. Beginning to speak of myself in the third person was obviously upsetting for many of the site’s supporters but, I can assure you, no-one took it more badly than Fat Eck.

My frequent trips into Europe this season took a toll on my domestic writing abilities and many of the reports on SPL games in 2005/2006 have been, admittedly, sub-standard. The patter and presentation around the Villarreal games was momentous - For the first time in the site’s history we’ve finally featured photographs, but the “Spanish Polis - ye cannae whack em” piece was achieved at far too great a cost for many regular readers and the protests outside my front door have caused great personal distress … to my neighbours (Me? I was totally guttered at the time - didnae hear a fuc**ing thing. Whit a state ah wis in - I should NEVER start on the shots - oh dearie me…).

So, all things considered, and with the best interests of the site in mind, it’s been mutually agreed that I will leave Gers@OpenFootball at the end of the present season. In the summer I’ll probably begin a one year sabbatical from the game - brush up on my quilt-making skills and indulge in my hobby of identifying actors/celebrities who only voice-over adverts (I recently spotted Suggs from Madness doing the Norwich Union “Let us Quote You Happy” campaign). After that it is my intention to provide copy for readers of a Premiership or Coca-Cola Championship club site - my experience of the Glasgow “Gold Fish net” will certainly stand me in good stead for the challenges the English game has to offer.

In the meantime I can guarantee all my loyal readers that Fat Eck will be doing his utmost to cover Rangers’ remaining nine SPL fixtures as wholeheartedly as ever. My commitment to this site from now til the end of 2005/2006 is 100% and I’m sure that all my readers will take the next few games as a chance to impress the incoming Editor with the quality of their feedback posts.

It is with great pleasure that I can now confirm, after months of speculation, the new Editor will indeed be the highly-rated Le Grande Alex.

Monsieur Alex is, of course, very highly regarded throughout Europe and it’s something of a coup for Gers@OpenFootball to obtain the services of such a sought-after blogger. He made his name writing a series of stinging e-mails to L’Equipe’s website, for three years on the trot, and, after a 12-month break from writing during which he’s played a lot of football, Le Grande Alex has turned down offers from www.Galacticosultrasur.com , www.dynamokyivloonatic.net and nazilazidicanio@geeze-a-wave.com and agreed to ply his trade with this famous site from a small country.

I wish him all the best and I’m sure - bien sure - you’ll all be in very good hands.

… If the bugger ever actually turns up …

Allez Les Bleus!
