    To the Dubliner - you should read your history. Robert the Bruce’s brother went to Ireland to try to drive out the English and form a Celtic alliance to defend each other against English emperialism.     Taking the pires thing seriously for a moment, which I think is reasonable, why shouldn’t he go - I am a fanatic Arsenal fan (staying in Scotland currently) who is also a bit fed up with Bobby this season. I think his best days are behind him, I think we have good new talent to play where he plays (give Theo “the kid” a go!) and I also think he has some great performances left in him. He has said that he will stay if AW “guarantees” him first team football. Really?! REALLY! Yeah sure bob, whenever you are fit, you can start, we don’t really care how you are playing - does he think AW is a cnut. You can’t guarantee anyone 1st team football, it just doesn’t work like that.

    Next, the lack of English players at Arsenal. It is true, we are reduced so Sol the nutter and Ash the apparent mercenary. But not for want of trying. If english players weren’t so fucking pricey or so fucking troublesome (or just so plain fucking rubbish, then we would have a good ensligh team! AW has tried - if Jermaine Pennant could keep his pikey tendencies in, if Francis Jeffers could have learnt football, if Richard Wright had been any good, if Matthew Upson had also been any good,etc you can go on for a while. We are not harming english football because our youth academy turns out an absolute shitload of good young english players, even some we maybe should have kept (David Bentley at Blackburn). So it is basically a shame but i forgive wenger for not going british. big phil snederos is unlikely to be brawling in a club at 3am - he is swiss, give him fondue and some numbered bank a/c and he’s happy.

    It is interesting to note as I read through the above trail of how easily seemingly intelligent people can degenerate into inane and unfounded slanging matches because of what I can only assume is a distnct inability to structure a reasonable argument.

    It sounds like some people have been basing detestation for another group of people based simply on either watching “Braveheart”,reading a magazine article or listening without impunity to their parents own brainwashed ideas.

    This is what annoys me most about football in these lands. That an ironic synopsis on the possibility of a French player joining a British Club side becomes the fuel for a metophoric petrol bomb across the baricade aimed without forethought or reason and designed only, I assume, to satisfy the carnal and repressed desires of those bigots on both sides that throw them.

    If you cannot have a decent debate based on fact, mutual understanding and constructive solutions then why talk at all. I have heard these rantings from a wee boy and to be quite blunt I am sick of them. Its the same old rhetoric that has existed since time immamorial and its dull.

    It is true to say there are more Union Jacks at Ibrox than Scottish flags but then it is equally as fair to say there are just as many tricolors at Parkhead.     First off if you actually looked on the subsidising of Scotland you would find that the main source of British (dirty word) income is the Scottish oil fields in the North Sea, so when we leave enjoy trying to fond such a vast source of income. Tourism sure people go and see the Queen (mostly Germans visiting their own), but more come and play golf where? Yes, Scotland again.

    As for how we got the Queen, remember King James I, well he may have been the first to you English, but to us he was James V and he, a Scot, united England and Scotland, so although the thrown is in London (like Sol Campbell, the English began to cry that they weren’t being loved when it was up north) it is us Scots who could really claim historical rule, seeing as the monarchy in place today dates back to a Scottish King, though now it is a German Queen, to be followed by the Prince of Wales (he’s even English but doesn’t want people to know).

    Now to ‘wee willy’ how apt a name, i’m guessing you use the term wanker because you are jealous that others can and you can’t. Remembering that our education system is world renown for being better than your’s (Oxford? is that where Prince William went, or was it St. Andrews?), the comma after Spain in my name is used for dramatic effect, you really should have started your ‘oi’ with a capital O as it was the start of a new sentence, the space should go after the exclamation mark, not before, and finally (after an exclamation mark you do not need a full stop as this isn’t required when an exclamation mark, or a question mark is used).

    Anyway as this is a Rangers and football website (or at least i think it used to be), how about Rix getting the chop, did he last longer than Burley? Ah well, that will be second place all ours then. Where are Arsenal finishing by the way 5th, or more likely 6th if Bolton win one of their games in hand.

    On Sunday I spent an age deliberating on how best to describe the ambivalent events at Tynecastle, in one of Rangers most crucial matches of the season.     I only shoved this “Pires piece” up as an after-thought. I had one of those moments where ye think

    And, Gers fans will remember that - as much as the coverage of international football by the major London-based channels is as xenophobic as “get out (You surrender-monkey/ nazi /tree-dwelling bastards)”, ITV and Sky Sports treatment of The Gers in the Champions League this season was exceptional. They were genuinely more emotionally involved than ST fuckinV and, particularly on the nite we qualified for the knock-out stages, gave us pride of place. Their programmes ALL started and ended with “Arsenal this, Liverpool that but tonight is all about Rangers and Alex McLeish”. It made me weep I was so proud.

    Ye know, my mate gave me a loan of the “Arsenal centurions” DVD just yesterday - purely because I think Dennis Bergkamp scores goals made in heaven. I’ve always wanted to endlessly re-watch that goal he scores against Newcastle at St James’ where he takes a pass (from PIRES!) and flicks it one way round the defender as he turns the other, meets the ball at the other side and slots it home. I’ve always liked Arsenal … Herbert Chapman, fever Pitch, dour defensive football of the highest order, the Highbury tradition. Always felt they were the closest English equiv to The Teds - particularly enjoyed them in the George Graham days: That was my kind of side. Think they played the best-looking football on the planet in the calendar year 2002 and was gutted they couldn’t seal it with a Champions League win - I can’t fully admire a team’s football until it wins them the ultimate prize. I know that’s ironic from a rangers fan but - hey - that’s maybe why I empathise with the gooners … as much as I can empathise with anyone other than The Mighty Gers.

    And I think the posts from those who can’t read simply show that every fanbase has that element who just want to hate anyone who even mentions their team. Thing is, I can’t work out how they ever manage to operate a PC…

    Rangers and Celtic get regular gates of 50/60,000 week in week out and have a worldwide fanbase second only to Man U in the Premiership. Add to this Sky TV money and you will find that neither of the Old Firm would be “relegated within 2 seasons in the EPL. Arsenal may have money to buy the best, but in terms of fanbase and history they sadly cannot even approach either Rangers or Celtic.

    As for fan base and filling the stadium with 50/60k each game…you may not have noticed that we are moving to a 60,000 all seater work of art very soon and I suspect we will fill it the vast majority of the time.
    I’m not that old but I used to go to Highbury before it was all seater and would regularly see 45-53k crowds and that was when we were not having the best of times !

    when I think of the worlds greatest teams, AC /Inter Milan, Jeventus,Real Madrid , Barca, Manure, Liverpool, Arsenal(of course !) tend to spring to mind.
    Sure, Rangers are well supported and have won many titles but the fact that they have been won against seriously inferior opposition is the difference between becoming a truly great team of the world and one that has walked to virtually every title they have won. This season Rangers are 3rd, it goes to show how poor a season you are having domestically.
    It would be the equivalent of Arsenal,Liverpool/manure finshing 15th in the premiership.
    One day if you do join the English premiership you will realise how hard it is to play teams that can beat you every week and not just 3 or 4 times a season.
