   My suggestion to you is stick to football, cut out the obscene swearing, and keep your arrogant talk about God, Christians, and Churches out of your site. Incidently, I have been a Rangers fan since I was three years old - apparently - I am now over sixty.

   Although this was done at a time when the Rangers support seemed to be singled, by the media and politicians, out for the term “bigot” so is maybe more understandable if, given the fact that Boruc who had been in the country less than a year and would/should have no knowledge of what his actions would result in as he says himslef “one of his team mates told him to do it”. I think the caution, which was really introduced to football in the 80’s to try to combat the old-firm trouble will send a message out that the police at least will go after both sides, for me the bottom line is that Boruc should not have known to do it to provoke the fact that he did and admitted as much by blaming a team mate says it all.

   The fact is that all the recent sectarian rubbish in the media has only had one purpose, apart from sellingnewspapers, and that is to try and help joke mcconnel and his london run labour party get support outwith the west of the centralbelt. No-body in religious circles as far as I am aware want anything to do with it.

   At the age of 9 I was stopped and had a knife put at my throat by a 18-19 yr old guy proudly displaying his crucifix and asked what team I supported..I was brought up not knowing or understanding about religious differences, or colour for that matter, so I said proudly Rangers…fortunately he smiled and walked away saying I should think twice the next time, that was in 1974, and not once did I say to him “but tomorrow I will still be a millionaire!”.

   This was not an isolated incident for me or for people I knew groing up so I feel I have a good case to hate those who pretend to follow that particular religion because I knew most of those doing the attacking had never seen the inside of a church or chapel but today as then I do not, and refuse to, see that as having anything to do with Rangers Football Club or for that matter septic. It is the fans and their own social issues that have caused/created the recent problems but today we now live in an era where unfortunately the media has more and more influence and control of our lives, especially those under 30 imo, and the gutter press has never been so deep in effluent.

   I think this is where the politicians really need to exert their control instead of deflect all of us from the fact this country is in deep shit but I am afraid that will never happen.

   this time it hasn’t gone un-noticed though,,,it is well reported here in england,,as it is in europe and the rest of the world,(just check the news sites).uefa are having a special meeting on tuesday, regarding the legality of players blessing themselves,,and being arrested in glasgow. the word is that rangers will be suspended form european football, until clarification of the laws in scotland regading this are ? clarified.not so funny now is it. leave 1690 behind and come into the 21st century,,your time is runnin out

   Great result for the headbanging knuckle-draggers on both sides. Those in blue can claim that the caution was for Boruc blessing himself and that this is proof that it’s harmful to watch and should be kept from the sight of decent folk. Those in green can claim that it was for Boruc blessing himself and that it is further proof of the victimisation of Catholics in Scotland. The Crown can say it wasn’t for Boruc blessing himself but for a number of reasons, and that they have acted in the best interests of the public. No doubt wee Jack McConnell will try to sit on both sides of the fence in an increasingly desperate attempt to use the issue of sectarianism to deflect attention from the risible record of his party in the Scottish Parliament and attempt to court both the Catholic and Unionist block vote at the next election (and those in the central belt are stupid enough to fall for it).

   Isn’t it lucky that Scotland is such a Utopia of blissful existence that this is the biggest issue in the news this week?

   And on a football note, we’ll be lucky to QUALIFY for next year’s UEFA cup, never mind winning this year’s. If le Guen is sooooo good, surely he would be able to outwit the talentless muppets of the SPL even at this early stage of the season? Or maybe he’s just a wee bit over-rated, which would explain his decision to further his career in this footballing & evolutionary backwater….

   Heard an absolute belter/sickener at Rugby Park today: “yer maw’s a mattress at Barlinnie”! . Aimed at the Killie goalie. Now, if he’d turned round and said a full fucking mass in front of us after that we’d have had absolutely NO RIGHT to be reporting him tae ra polis or stewards.

   Only five posts on this topic. That’s a good sign - especially as most are fairly intelligent on the topic. But just try to have the bravery to seperate your hate for Rangers or me from the religious persecution thing.

   I’ve watched fitbaw all over Europe and, really - you can relax - we don’t need to involve religion or even politics for it to be hateful. The bitterness doesn’t go away just because the god stuff does.

   No need to worry. Just ask a Morton or St Mirren fan.

   Eck, why bring the Church of Scotland into your article, other than through a need to appear even-handed? When does the CoS create “hyperbole around these situations”?

   You, and some of the other posters above, seem to think that footballers should not be reported for making rude gestures to the crowd. I disagree, as there has to be some level of responsible behaviour from footballers.

   I would have thought that Lennon would have been reported for his spitting on the scarf and his bigoted outburst during the game you mention, but you will need to ask the authorities why he was not charged. However, nothing to do with the result of the day, I would imagine.

   Boruc is a f4nny plain and simple. He tried to cause trou ble and it was a CO-INCIDENCE that he threw in the 4 hand jive sign as part of his repetoire. This Catholic church victim nonsense will drag this country back hundreds of years.

    Derek - being even-handed is what it’s all about. We’re all the same - and the fact Bears know it is what makes us better than them… nah, wait a minute … that disnae make sense … :-)

    Och ye know how I feel. If we greet about them greetin then we’re just becoming mirror images of them - and we waste our lives in hatred (as Mrs Jorgensen says to Ethan about Marti before they head off to get Debbie back - and she was a schoolteacher, by golly!)

    Look at all the green-and-white tits who’ve come on here in the last 24 telling us that because we’re one point of the top of the SPL they’re gonnae do us and they’re gonnae win teh league and they’ll be laughing at us again etc. We had to listen to teh same pish at the outset of the 2002/2003 and 2004/2005 season - and instead of coming back on here to apologise for their rank stupidity they just claimed it was all a conspiracy again. You cannae argue wi folk like that and Rangers will never win every game so you have to be prepared to deal with them in a way which allows our club to triumph even when losing on the pitch - we should be setting the example of responsibility.

    I said at the time, imagine what would have happened if a Rangers player had spat on a Celtic scarf at the Jock Stein end of Parkned. The very opposite of what happened at ibrox - where we just laughed. This is what makes me proud to be a Ranger. Celtic Boys club is the most disgusting scandal ever to hit Scottish Football and the Ibrox disaster is the most apalling tragedy, yet so many celtic people continue to portray Rangers as eternally getting away with stuff and themselves as perpetual victims. quality people know the true state of affairs and remain sober at the most volatile moments - the Ranger support is quality.

    Boruc made a tit of himself and cheapened his religion by using it as part of a series of gestures. To me he was just making an ass of himself - i didn’t even mention it in my match retort on the game (youse can Check the archive) and I was right above the git. I was 100% behind the coca-cola-to-the-napper of Stilian petrov when he’d just scored against us and goaded the Copland -and teh good thing there was Petrov admitted he’d been stupid - we’re all supposed to be passionate about our FOOTBALL! To me,however, if someone makes a fool of their own beliefs they’re just to be felt sorry for - if it winds ye up then ye really are just looking for something to be annoyed about…

    …like me with the Catholic Church and media reaction - all too predicatble and SO misinformed. They should surely be censuring Boruc for his use of their sacred hand gestures in such an environemnt for such ends - but attendances at Chapel are down and there’s nothing like a bit of “Us v them” patter to get folk going BACK to basics and back to church. It’s so fucking medieval.

    PS, for me, ANYONE who wants us all to believe in a ghost in the sky is being hysterical and hyperbolic - no matter how calmly they do it. Jesus was Jewish, Martin Luther was a Catholic - it’s all part of the same shite.

    I saw the incident too and thought it humerous at the time. Watching the “offended” in the front of the Copland lose the plot and a plod trying to placate them, the guy next to me turned and said:
    “Whit dae ye think they’re aw saying to that poor Polis? ‘That bad sellick gaolie made a nasty religious sign at me!” And the polis will be saying, “Well, ye huv been screaming ‘durty, feninan b*stard’ at him for the last 45 minutes!”

    I wouldn’t be surprised if the actual conversation did go like that.

    Much as I think Boruc was an idiotic arse for goading opposition fans, I also think those who complained about him have sunk *almost* to the level of those who complained about Graham Roberts or Paul Gascoigne.
    (The only reason I say “almost” is because neither GR or PG appeared to be deliberately trying to upset opposition fans, which is exactly what Boruc was doing.)

    Pathetic, although I have found the whole ensuing rammy, complete with opportunist, mock outrage from total arseholes who know nothing about what actually happened, great entertainment.

    Sorry Boaby, jolly japes aside, that a disgrace. The reaction and vilification of Rangers and the Rangers support in all forms of media as a result of the lies spouted in this debacle mean I dont find it anything other than an out and out attack on us.
    Sure we can try and rationalise at the level you alluded to, but this has gone way beyond that. Are you saying that the single biggest things to come out of this are that a ) is a right old laugh and b) Some Rangers fans need to have a look at themsleves?
    Completely out of order and frankly fodder for the Rangers haters in the press. Sorry for taking a hissy fit like this, but this really has reached all over the world and our club is dragged through the mud again. We need to concentrate of defending whats left of the name of our club as no-one else will. I’ll pass on making judgements on fellow bears until we clear our name completely if you dont mind

    Of course not, although I’d argue that both are true.
    The single, biggest thing to come out of this, in my opinion, is that opportunist arseholes (i.e. McConnel, Salmond, Kearney, eTims, etc..) will jump on any band wagon that suits their agenda.
