Phil O’Donnell

I honestly don’t know what to say, folks. This is just utterly tragic news. Too shocked to put anything together right now - I just want to get all the football stuff pushed down the home page of this blog and - man - I don’t know, I suppose just give us all space to think about what’s happened to Phil O’Donnell.

It’s just so terrible. I’m absolutely stunned so god only knows what his poor family and friends must be going through right now. Our heartfelt sympathies to them all. Our thoughts to everyone at Motherwell FC.

Quality player, great servant to the game, a real adversary for Rangers during his time at both Motherwell and Celtic - whom he served with equal distinction - and knowing one or two Well fans like I do, anyone who played in, never mind scored in that 1991 Scottish Cup final is an utter legend round Fir Park way.

I’m sorry but this is just a terrible, terrible piece of news and I’m absolutely gutted for all concerned.

A fellah posting on this site in the wake of our Boxing Day match, under the pseudonym “The Well91″, is a colleague of mine, a Motherwell regular, a great football guy and an all-round top bloke. He’s set me right a few times when i’ve been preaching doom and gloom about flipping football results (!!!) during many a lunch-break.

I know how Jim must be feeling right now - and my heart goes out to him and his fellow Steelmen.

But we can all only imagine how the O’Donnell family must be feeling.

Life really isn’t fair.
